Walking on the path which he has not taken for months, memories, both sweet and bitter, washed over him. Memories of fun and joy, and of sweat and pain were all experienced in that short walk home.
Missing the times that were past, he wondered if he would ever get to enjoy such a carefree life ever again in that new life of his. Perhaps he would, but most likely, he wouldn't.
With a sigh, he pushed those memories into a chest at the back of his mind, locked them up, and threw away the key. Perhaps half a century later, he would search for the key, and revel in the wonders within. But for now, he would keep them bolted shut, sheltering them from the onslaught of mental and physical tests that he was about to experience..
